“How are you doing this evening?” …I answer “Fine thanks and you?” i hand him my card and notice the tattoo on his arm that reads…One life One Chance I am on the same buss that I would run after again and again to meet my parents out on the Island Sailing with my grandfathers friends and walking the beach picking up shells and getting drunk at bonfire parties falling asleep with my bathing suit on sand in my bed and the smell of ocean in my hair i remember the boy from Spain he could not speak english but when we kissed on the beach at night all was understood
The hampton Jitney hmm still one of very few people of color but oh well thats my overall story Heading out to see an old friend of my grand dads my grandfather was white and adopted my Pops and my aunt and uncle and this man that I am visiting is white well off and family and has known me since i was a kid When i called him he said …”Oh Maluwa God Bless you” can’t wait to see you
My summer trips were all about seeing grandpas old friends He had another friend in Marthas Vineyard He was a Bishop of the Episcopal church as well Yes my Grandfather was a Bishop he was a good man a man of substanceGod bless his soul
I was in a little farm house for the weekend sitting by the fireplace at night chatting it up catching up while the Black lab was placing its head on my knee During the day We walked by the ocean picking up rocks and seashells it was cold as hell with the wind but refreshing and I felt the kiss of mother nature against my soul saying “shhh hush” When i woke up the next morning and went down stairs he was putting wood on the fireplace and said “maluwa good-morning God Bless you” and gave me a kiss on the cheek That day we went into South hampton to do a little shopping and hit some coffee shops and then he wanted to look at a boat that he and his partner will be buying in the Spring
Overall it was a great trip and we did talk a little biz as well Good old Tony still going strong
