About
Maluwa is an artist specializing in painting, photography and music. She is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts and has a Masters degree from New York University and The International Center of Photography.
She is an advocate for the disempowered, disenfranchised, and disowned victims of social atrocities. Born in Malawi, Africa, Maluwa’s social and political awareness was nurtured through her parent’s global mobility, as they worked for the Peace Corps. Europe, Africa, and the United States provided the backdrop that would shape Maluwa’s thoughts, opinions, and most importantly-art about the world.
All of Maluwa’s work reflects deeper struggles, both intimate and larger. She is known for her unique style and spirited energy. Maluwa’s passion for life extends into all of her interests; whether it be art, holistic lifestyle, or her love of nature.Maluwa believes that one’s own lived experience, respectfully related to others, remains for us the best foundation for social vision, of which creativity is a significant part. Personal association, education, political and environmental backgrounds all exert their pressure on the interaction between heart, mind and creativity. Art and music can prove timely and relevant to all of us who are interested in the dynamics of social change. It is her hope that she will find herself in a position to provide a space in society for constructive dialogue.
